No showroom, but the huge display in the open ground attracts attention of every passerby and majority of them stop by to check out the stuff.
Liyaqat who hails from Moradabad, picks up the blankets from Panipat (Haryana), Gav-takiya (Round Pillow) & Daris from Billari (UP), Flat pillows from other markets and moves to various places. Currently he has such display trucks in places like bowenpally, Gunrock Enclave, Malakpet, etc.
Low cost with decent quality, easy approach and the no inhibition on touch and feel, is what makes this model successful. Every passerby may not be a Customer but he is well attended. Most of the onlookers become buyers and even if they don't..., they become the word-of-mouth media.
In today's competitive world where all showrooms wait for customers to walk-in, these people have taken their showroom amidst the customers and that's where they are successful. Great.
6 months away from their families, they stay in and out of the truck. Travel to various cities and the complete team of 6 to 7 people including driver and co-driver are nothing but an extended family. They cook together, eat together, sell together and stay together.
It is a scene right out from Hindi movie Carvan and I am too tempted to live it myself. I will going back to them soon for a dinner in their truck.
